Cultural Resources Some of the cultural resources available to the Seneca people include the Seneca-Iroquois National Museum (SINM), completed in August of 1977, located on the AIR, and two branches of the Seneca Nation Library, located on both the AIR and CIR. Opened in June of 1979, these cultural resources are available to the general public as well. The Seneca-Iroquois National Museum houses cultural treasures which serve to instruct the viewing public in the prehistoric, historic, and contemporary life of the Seneca and Iroquois people. Educational exhibits are held periodically in the form of lecture series and special exhibitions of Iroquois craftspeople working at the arts of bone and wood carving, beadwork, silverwork, painting, basketwork, huskwork and more. The SINM is funded through the Seneca Nation of Indians, public donations, the Job Training Partnership Act, the Employee Assistance Program, and the New York Council on the Arts. The Seneca-Iroquois National Museum The two branches of the SNI Library are affiliated with the Chautauqua-Cattaraugus County Library System. The two branches are open to the general public and are funded by the New York State Department of Education. |
