Other forms of economic independence result from monies received through various land leases that the SNI has entered into on behalf of its members. Along with this revenue, monies are also being received from the federal and state governments through a settlement pertaining to past inequities of the lease between the City of Salamanca and the SNI. The settlement was passed by the U.S. Congress (Public Law 10l-503), and provides for certain amounts of money to be allocated for future economic development.
